Not only was it a sudden announcement, but also the release was coming really soon. Same month, Rockstar Games has announced an upcoming release [of " Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition", a remake/remaster of the original 3D era GTA trilogy (GTA3, GTA:VC and GTA:SA).
